Gulftainer's GT USA - launch set for Canaveral terminalby ASC Staff on Jun 4, 2015
GT USA, a subsidiary of UAE-based port operations company Gulftainer, has announced that its new Canaveral Cargo Terminal (CCT) will officially begin operations on June 12, 2015 with the arrival of a CMA CGM container ship.
The CCT terminal is the only dedicated container terminal at Port Canaveral, which is a mixed use cruise and commercial port and one of the key maritime hubs for the US state of Florida.
GT USA has invested around US $100-million in the development and construction of the state-of-the-art container terminal, infrastructure, equipment and employees.
The terminal will begin operations with a capacity of 200,000-teu initially, but this will be increased as larger container ships call at the port, which is to serve as a gateway for containerized movements to the Florida market and beyond.
Canaveral Cargo Terminal will be opened on 20 acres with two berths and two gantry cranes.
Gulftainer, which is one of the largest privately owned, independent terminal operators in the world, signed a 35-year agreement with the Canaveral Port Authority in 2014. Port Canaveral is the company’s first US venture.
GT USA executives, along with Canaveral Port Authority officials, will welcome local, state, national and international public officials as well as industry leaders to the grand opening event.
