Richard Bell, managing director of RHS Logistics, joined 100-year-old shipping services company Rais Hassan Saadi Group in 1998 with the remit to create and develop a new business division that would provide 3PL services to manufacturers of consumer products. RHS Logistics was born and Bell, who possesses extensive experience in third party logistics, has been at the helm since its inception.

Bell steered RHS Logistics from zero to AED 400 million worth of investments with a sustainable vision of a logistics park with world class facilities and infrastructure, headquartered in Dubai World Central (DWC). The DWC RHS Logistics Park is complimented by facilities in JAFZA and DAFZA, together spanning 200,000 sq m. In 2014 the company opened phase two of its DWC facility, which Bell says is “a dedicated highly secured and engineered operation for the world’s foremost tablet and smartphone manufacturer”.

Following a string of high profile contract wins, RHS Logistics invested in developing technology systems and support personnel. “As part of our agreement with clients, we provide 24/7 inventory access and EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) for fast, accurate data transfers. IT is a continuous development process and we have implemented a lot of software outside our main WMS, which is individually tailored to our client requirements,” he says.

RHS is tendering phase three and four of its DWC facilities to create a logistics park with 150,000 pallet capability, which together with the Jebel Ali and DAFZA facilities, raises total pallet capacity to 200,000. It moves in excess of 400,000 individual products through its warehouse from various industry segments.

12. Mustapha Kawam

Mustapha Kawam, who was recently appointed president and CEO of Globe Express Services (GES), joined the company in 1995 as a sales representative. In the span of 20 years with GES, Kawam has played an instrumental role in the establishment of GES Kuwait and further expansion of the company’s presence within the Gulf States. He was also involved in overseeing the operations for opening of the industrial warehouse and accompanying office in Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza).

Under his leadership, Globe Express Services has received the Platinum Award for four years in a row by Maersk Line, the award which recognises the best performing logistics providers and top customers of Maersk Line.

Kawam’s role now as president & CEO concentrates more on maximising industry opportunities and sustaining GES’ global success. He aims to continue the company’s relentless efforts to achieve higher levels of customer satisfaction and service, steadily build and expand GES’ business to create new opportunities. Additionally, he also wishes to establish a positive work environment for all employees, display excellent leadership skills, astute business acumen and deep industry knowledge.

13. Lars Bergstrom
Group Vice President - Middle East

Lars Bergstrom was appointed GAC group vice president for the Middle East in January 2013. He is responsible for the development and operations of all GAC’s activities in the Middle East, covering ten countries and 25 companies.

He joined GAC in 1995 as group IT director and when promoted in 2007 to group vice-president for the Indian Subcontinent region he oversaw strong growth and development in Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

The first GAC operation was set up in Kuwait in 1956 and since then the company has evolved into a global provider of integrated shipping, logistics, marine and related services. Shipping was GAC’s first business unit and its logistics operation originated from its forwarding, warehousing and distribution operations in Dubai.

14. Majed Zambaraji
Vice President Indian Subcontinent, Middle East, Africa (ISMEA)

Majed Zambaraji is UPS vice president, responsible for business development in Indian Subcontinent, Middle East, and Africa (ISMEA).

With over 20 years of commercial and business leadership experience at CEO and board level, he has extensive expertise and knowledge in the logistics industry. Zambaraji previously held several leadership roles for well-respected companies including General Electric, DuPont De Nemours, Agility Logistics, and RAK Logistics.

He joined UPS in January 2014 to lead emerging market growth initiatives and expand UPS’s footprint across 74 countries in the ISMEA region, overseeing the development of express, ocean, air, and road transport segments.

UPS has been present in the Middle East since 1988, with its regional headquarters based in UAE. The global logistics company’s network in the region encompasses over 300 operating facilities, effectively bridging European and Asian markets and connecting the ISMEA region to the global market.

15. Kaan Kahveci
Managing Director, Middle East & SVP-Finance Balkans, Africa, Middle East & Central Asia
CEVA Logistics

Kadir Kaan Kahveci is managing director of CEVA Logistics in the Middle East and senior vice president-finance for Balkans, Africa, Middle East & Central Asia.

He has a strong background in operations and finance and his career began in 1998 at a large French industrial company based in Turkey. He rose to chief finance officer (CFO) and held the same position in various multinational companies in Turkey before joining CEVA Logistics in 2013, one of the world’s leading supply chain management companies. In July 2013, Kahveci was appointed regional CFO for Balkans, Africa, Middle East & Central Asia, as well as procurement and investment president for the region.

In June 2015, he took overall responsibility for managing and developing CEVA’s freight and contract logistics operations in the Middle East, in addition to his current role as regional finance head. His main focus is on business growth in Middle East countries and maintaining favourable financial indicators for these geographies.

Kaan is 38 and from Adana, Turkey. He graduated from Marmara University majoring in Business Management.

16. Mahmood Sakhi AlBalushi

Al Madina Logistics Services (AMLS)

Mahmood Sakhi Albalushi serves as CEO of Al Madina Logistics (AMLS) and CEO of Muscat Container Depot. Al Madina Logistics is the leading logistics provider in Oman and has the leading distribution centre in Oman, certified with ISO:22000. Under Albalushi’s leadership, AMLS has lead the way in quality logistics facilities and services in Oman, and developed and operated the first and only dry port in Oman.

Before joining Al Madina Logistics, Albalushi was group general manager of the prestigious Golden Group of Companies in Oman and has extensive leadership experience. He is a member of Oman-Bahrain Business Council and is an MBA graduate from Franklin University, Ohio, the US.

Albalushi reports seeing continuous opportunities in Oman’s logistics sector and considers more potential to tap into within the country, thanks in part to its strategic location.

AMLS is currently planning additional logistics centres in various regions in Oman.

17. John Wylie
Managing Director for the Middle East
Barloworld Logistics

John Wylie has now spent two years as Barloworld Logistics’ managing director for the Middle East.

During this time, Wylie has built a new management team, increased his company’s asset base in the Middle East and increased turnover by 50%. This growth now comes from delivering supply chain solutions and complementary software rather than just freight forwarding and contract logistics as was the case in the past.

Furthermore, Wylie and his team expanded outside the GCC in 2014 by securing supply chain management contracts in East Africa. Wylie has worked in the logistics and supply chain industry for 26 years and has an MBA from Instituto de Empresa, Spain.

18. Eugene Mayne

Eugene Mayne, Tristar Group’s CEO, started the company in Dubai back in 1998 with three used trucks and today runs a fleet in excess of 1,000 road tankers, pick-ups and flatbed trailers across the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

The company started out as a road transport company, hauling bulk and packed petroleum products, but developed to become an integrated liquid logistics solutions provider.

Tristar caters to the petroleum and chemical industries, regionally and globally; its core expertise is in handling hydrocarbons, lubricants, chemicals and liquid gases. It has a presence in 15 countries, with a strong focus on expanding operations in Saudi Arabia and Africa.

Tristar has won several accolades in the past year, including the Corporate Social Responsibility Award at the Supply Chain & Transport Awards (SCATAs) in April 2015 for its ‘Let us go home safely’ initiative, spearheaded by Mayne. This shares the company’s best practice on road safety with other organisations employing heavy duty commercial truck drivers. In recognition of this extensive internal and external road safety focus, Mayne received the Prince Michael International Road Safety Award (PMIRSA) on behalf of Tristar in December 2014.

Tristar received the Dubai Quality Appreciation Award from His Highness Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, in 2014 as well as RoSPA’s Gold Award for Occupational Health & Safety for the third consecutive year.

19. Peter Tribel
Regional CEO for the Middle East, Africa & CIS (MEAC)
Panalpina

Peter Tribel is Panalpina’s regional CEO, Middle East, Africa and CIS (MEAC).

Triebel began his career as an export manager at Swiss freight forwarder Jacky Maeder and acted as its CEO when the company was acquired by Swiss supply chain solutions provider Panalpina in 1999. Since then he has held various senior management positions at Panalpina in Europe, Africa and Asia.

The company created its MEAC region in late 2013, coming into effect on 1 January 2014, with Triebel moving from London to Dubai to run operations for this region. At thisd time he also joined Panalpina’s Executive Committee (ExCom).

Panalpina’s core products are air freight, ocean freight and logistics, and the it operates a global network of 500 offices in over 70 countries, working with partner companies in a further 90 countries. Worldwide it employs over 16,000 people.

In May 2015 Panalpina announced the acquisition of its Egyptian agent Afifi since 1995, a company specialising in freight forwarding, customs clearance and logistics, representing an important step in its strategic expansion in growth economies, in particular in the Middle East and Africa.
