Dubai Wholesale City begins excavation worksby ASC Staff on Nov 23, 2016
Dubai Wholesale City, the global integrated wholesale trading hub, and a member of TECOM Group, has announced the beginning of excavation works.
Dubai Wholesale City appointed Port Saeed Transport & Building Contracting Company to execute site works which will include levelling, grading and excavating, spanning over 135 million square feet, and move substantial volumes of sand and soil across the premises - enough to fill 10,000 Olympic pools.
The largest integrated trading hub will also accelerate the pace of the infrastructural work through executing the development operations alongside the grading. This is in response to the great demand for Dubai Wholesale City’s services from investors.
The city recently began accepting applications from companies and traders interested in booking space. The infrastructural work is expected to be completed within the first year.
Port Saeed Transport & Building Contracting Company’s scope also includes constructing a 15 kilometer dual carriageway that connects two major highways in the UAE - Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road – complementing several projects undertaken by the Roads and Transport Authority, to create a wider network of roads to the Expo 2020 site.
The new road will also link the main components of Dubai Wholesale City that serve various sectors such as food, building materials, electronics, machinery, equipment and others.
Abdulla Belhoul, chief executive officer of Dubai Wholesale City, said: “The commencement of con-struction on this mega project marks a new chapter in trans-forming our vision into reality. Our goal is to shape an economic entity that sets exemplary standards of excellence for this thriving sector. Once complete, Dubai Wholesale City will lever-age Dubai’s strategic geographical position to emerge as a key player in global wholesale trade.”
He added: “Following the launch of Dubai Wholesale City by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Ra-shid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, we have worked to outline a long-term roadmap for the successful implementation of the project. Through several carefully considered steps, we plan to carry out and achieve the goals of this development and see it emerge as a wholesale trading hub of choice in the region and across the world. Dubai Wholesale City is well geared to further accelerate the contribution of the industrial sector to the national economy and elevate the status of Dubai and the UAE on the international trading map.”
For his part, Mohamed Obaid Al Shaali, general manager, Port Saeed Transport & Building Contracting Company, said: “We are pleased and proud to work on a global project such as Dubai Wholesale City. We have brought on-board the extensive experience of our team to ensure this mega project is com-pleted and delivered in a time-bound and efficient manner on par with best international standards.”
Dubai Wholesale City is a fully integrated trading hub and is the largest-of-its-kind in the region.
Set to attract AED30 billion in investments, Dubai Wholesale City, which includes Dubai Industrial Park, the dedicated industrial hub, offers state-of-the-art facilities to meet the dynamic needs of the re-gion’s thriving trade, manufacturing and logistics sector.
The city will offer companies and investors commercial and industrial land, markets, warehouses, showrooms and shops un-der one roof, as well as transport and storage services, in line with the high-est international standards, as well as support services such as shipping, insurance, customs and other services to ensure high ease of operational efficiency and speed in doing business.
