An Emirates A380 operating flight EK 55 on 5 October 2017 from Dubai to Düsseldorf almost broke the internet last week when it landed in a strong crosswind, and at one point almost left the runway.

The spectacular video, shot by plane enthusiast Martin Bogdan, who published the video on his YouTube channel Cargospotter, shows the skill of the pilots in keeping control of the massive plane after it was hit by a strong gust of wind at the critical moment of touchdown.

"I have filmed a few thousand crosswind landings at several airports in Europe within the past years, but this Airbus A380 crosswind landing was extremly [sic] hard and extraordinary," Bogdan commented on his posting. "I have never seen such a tremendous reaction of an airplane after a touchdown.”

The precarious crosswinds came courtesy of storm Xavier, a deadly disaster that hit northern Germany on Thursday with hurricane-strength winds and rain.

As winds in Berlin and Hamburg reached up to 75 mph, flights at the city airports were temporarily grounded and most public transportation was shut down, the Associated Press reports.

Düsseldorf didn't get hit with quite the same severity of storm (the city is 200-300 miles southwest of Hamburg and Berlin), but the crosswinds were reportedly upwards of 20 mph at the time of the Emirates landing.

Emirates Airlines, for its part, has been quite nonchalant about the viral video, issuing a statement that simply reads: “Emirates flight EK 55 on 5 October 2017 landed safely in Düsseldorf under strong crosswind conditions. At no point was the safety of the passengers and crew on board compromised."
