Organisers of the Airport Show in Dubai on May 19 said the event’s number of specialist, high-volume buyers grew by 20% despite the international downturn.
More than 19 international airports were represented at the exhibition at Airport Expo, and during the event Dubai International Airport announced Q1 passenger traffic volumes exceeded 9.7 million, a 2% growth on the same period last year.
In the same week, Airport Expo was also the location for the unveiling of flydubai’s new 737 aircraft. The event was seriously delayed as the region’s media awaited the arrival of Sheikh Ahmed, but eventually the aircraft was revealed and taxied onto the runway.
The week’s events have been heightened by a significantly more buoyant mood as according to figures from the ACI, domestic traffic figures are showing signs of a recovery. ACI director Andreas Schimm said the growth could indicate that international traffic figures could rise in Q2 of 2010.
