Thanks to organic growth and the effect of recent acquisitions, Agility has made it into the top ten of global third party logistics providers (3PLs) for 2008.
That’s according to the annual Who’s Who in Logistics guide published by Armstrong & Associates (A&A) and revealed to the public in Logistics Management magazine.
Armstrong & Associates’ list focuses on what it describes as value-added warehousing and distribution services. It does not include trucking companies or public warehousing operations and tries to eliminate non-3PL revenues from its calculations.
A&A ranks companies by gross revenue based on company reports and its own estimates.

Based on A&A’s methodology, DHL (through its Supply Chain and Global Forwarding units) was by far the world’s largest 3PL in 2008. Its 3PL revenue of US $37.1 billion is comfortably ahead of DB Schenker Logistics’ US $21.58 billion in 3PL revenue.
Companies from Europe are prominent on the list, with German firms occupying the top two slots and firms from France, Switzerland and Denmark also present. Two wholly US companies, UPS Supply Chain Solutions and C H Robinson Worldwide, are included.
Here is the list of the world’s top ten 3PLs in 2008:
