Kobian Gulf is anticipating a ramp-up in business after shifting its Middle East headquarters to an expanded logistics facility in the Jebel Ali Free Zone.

The new premises - reportedly part of a US$6m relocation project carried out by the company - spans 65,000 square feet and is four times the size of its previous warehouse.

Kobian believes the new warehouse will speed up delivery times to both the local market and other territories that it serves from Dubai, particularly in light of recent moves to increase its product offering.

"We have been expanding our portfolio so we need additional room to hold stock. That will allow us to provide products off-hand and reduce order time," explained Jayesh Kothari, senior business development director at Kobian Gulf.

Kothari said the facility would give Kobian an edge over competitors constrained by warehouse space and allow it to pursue plans to diversify its portfolio to include new IT products and white goods.

Kobian is best known as the manufacturer of Mercury desktops and related PC products, but it has recently refreshed its brand line-up in a bid to tap revenues from new markets.

It now carries iXA laptop bags and accessories and has picked up distribution rights for Cyberclean, a vendor that produces a specialist cleaning compound for electronics equipment. Last month, Kobian introduced its own range of standalone surveillance cameras.

As well as the Middle East, Kobian operates sales and marketing offices in a number of Asian markets, including India. The current size of the company is unclear, but three years ago it claimed to be generating annual sales of US$115m.
