UPS and DHL are ready for battle in Dubai! Sounds dramatic, but employees from both companies are taking part in a friendly cricket match at Jebel Ali Free Zone this weekend. Nice to see the industry spirit - good luck to both teams!

I'm so glad to hear that Fadi Ghandour has been inundated with congratulation messages since topping our power list, especially on his twitter account. Talking about twitter, why is there such a limited number of people from the Middle East logistics industry using this technology? In the words of Fadi himself: "Twitter is the new market frontier, people from the industry have to be on it". Are you on twitter? Please let me know - here is the link to my account: http://twitter.com/robeelhaq

Thursday 7th January 2010
Congratulations to Fadi Ghandour, who has topped the inaugural Logistics Middle East Power 25 list, as revealed on ArabianSupplyChain.com today. Happy new year! We've started the planning process for the Supply Chain and Transport Awards (SCATA) 2010, starting with the judging panel. I can confirm that Captain Mansoor Ghafoor (National Association of Freight and Logistics, NAFL) and Dr Kanak Madrecha (Supply Chain and Logistics Group, SCLG) will both serve their fourth terms on our judging committee. We also welcome Alex Borg (Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport) to the panel this year. More announcements will be made soon.

As the end of the year approaches, arabiansupplychain.com is taking a look back over the last twelve months. Be sure to read 'Most popular stories of 2009'  to find out which stories you read the most over the last year. The results may surprise you. Starting next week, we will also be posting our first Logistics Power List, in which we compile a subjective ranking of the most influential people in the regional logistics industry.

Unfortunetely, rumours about CeMAT Middle East's fate in 2010 were true. The show has been postponed until 2011, following a similar move by SITL Dubai. Look out for the full story on ArabianSupplyChain.com soon. Does that mean there's no major logistics exhibition in 2010? And three in 2011, with CeMAT Middle East, SITL Dubai and Materials Handling?

Monday 14th December
We have reported that SITL Dubai will return in 2011 instead of 2010, as previously thought. An announcement on CeMAT Middle East is also expected shortly - will this also be postponed until 2011?

Tuesday 8th December
Aramex CEO Fadi Ghandour received a positive response for his speech at the Arabian Business conference in Dubai yesterday - click here for a photo. I'm flying to Lebanon later today for the SNS supply chain conference - look forward to meeting some of you there!

A fairly hectic week ahead, following the recent break for Eid and UAE National Day. I'm meeting with Aramex CEO Fadi Ghandour at tomorrow's 'Is The Crash Over?' conference in Dubai, organised by Arabian Business. Also plan to visit Lebanon in time for the SNS Supply Chain Conference on Wednesday, which is titled 'Is Your Supply Chain Ready For The Economic Recovery?'.

Sunday 22nd November
Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) is organising a networking dinner in Dubai tomorrow, hosted by Anthony Wong, managing director of Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (HACTL), who is currently leading an official business mission to Dubai from Hong Kong’s logistics establishments. In addition to the HK delegation, the event will host prominent figures from both the private and public UAE logistics sector in general, with a primary focus on Dubai.

Tuesday 17th November
I am flying out to Germany soon with members of the UPS team in the Middle East to visit the company's flagship facility in Cologne. Also paying a visit to the UK, so there might be a lack of updates for a while!
