Lufthansa Technik has announced a joint venture with Oman Air to provide technical support for the airline’s fleet and for other customers in the region.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed at the Dubai Airshow on November 16.
Not only that, a new hangar is to be built at Muscat International Airport. From 2012, it will be possible for two widebody and two narrowbody aircraft to be handled in the hangar which is to be jointly funded by the partners.
Aircraft maintenance through to light C-checks for Airbus A330, Boeing 737NG, Embraer and ATR aircraft belonging to Oman Air and other customers will be carried out on the site.
Lufthansa Technik CEO August Wilhelm-Henningsen said: ‘With this strategic partnership between Oman Air and Lufthansa Technik, we are strengthening a well-established cooperative relationship. In the future we will be able to offer technical services directly in Oman to customers in a region that is one of the growth markets of international aviation.’
In addition, the MRO company has announced a deal with Etihad Airways to install new first class cabins in nine Airbus A340s from the airline’s long-haul fleet.
The project will be completed by the end of 2010 and all work will be carried out at Lufthansa Technik’s two sites in Hamburg and Malta.
C-checks on the aircraft will be carried out simultaneously and all nine aircraft will then be delivered to Etihad by the end of 2010.
Lufthansa Technik will also expand its agreement with Qatar Airways to include cabin modifications for four Airbus A340-600 aircraft belonging to the Doha-based carrier.
