Two licences have been granted for the establishment of bunker operations at the Port of Sohar, according to a statement from the Oman shipping hub.
Sohar Industrial Port Company’s chairman His Excellency Maqbool Ali Sultan and CEO Jan Meijer recently signed the contracts with Shell Marine Products (alongside local partner Shell Oman Marketing) and Matrix Marine (alongside local partner Oman Oil Marketing Company, or Oman Oil).
"With the increase of vessels calling the port and with the growing focus on the Port of Sohar, we are very pleased to sign new important agreements that show our strengths and our progress,” stated Meijer.
The agreements state that from the middle of June 2010, both companies will start to offer marine fuels to vessels calling at the port itself or calling at the extended anchorage area, which is close to international shipping routes that link to the Strait of Hormuz.
