The right hand engine of an Air Algerie aircraft caught fire during a flight from Algiers to Beirut this week, forcing the crew to shut the engine down and activate the fire suppression system.

The incident, which occurred on a Boeing 737-600 with 57 people on board, took place during the aircraft’s approach to Beirut.

Pilots were able to safely land, although the plane was still trailing smoke from the right hand engine and stopped on the runway, according to Aviation Herald.

Emergency services needed to foam the right hand engine and the airplane was later towed to the apron, where passengers disembarked.
