Saudi Arabian Airlines suffered a technical malfunction at Cairo International Airport on 17th July, when an aircraft engine fell onto the runway shortly before a scheduled departure.

According to a report by the Al Ahram daily, the aircraft had 416 passengers and 22 crew members on board at the time, and was preparing for a flight to Jeddah.

The outer engine on the right wing of the Boeing 747 dropped off and rolled out to hit the airport's perimeter fencing and leaving a hole in it, stated the newspaper.

The runway was closed for two and half hours as the ground staff cleared the debris.

Engine Failure
If the image in your story is of the actual Aircraft then i am afraid you are Sensationalising the story somewhat. It is obvious the Engine Exhaust Plug is missing but it is more glaringly obvious the Engine is still attached to the Starboard Wing.

Engine falls from Saudi passenger flight to Jeddah;
Saudia have a very good record but the SV Board must seriously look again at their Maintenance and check/control procedures. With two serious issues within a couple of days it is cause for concern
