Kuwait International Airport was closed for almost two hours yesterday after three bags containing books on how to build bombs were found in the lounge, local media has reported.

Security staff came across the unattended luggage near gate three just after 3am, and were forced to call in an explosives team to check the bags after no one claimed them, daily newspaper Al Anba said.

Airport officials said five flights were delayed following the incident, and the airport was closed to incoming flights for nearly two hours. Aircraft which had already arrived were diverted to safer runways.

Al Anba said police are still investigating the incident.
